About the Artist: Karen Nicloux is a Northern Tutchone artisan from Mayo, Yukon. She currently resides in Whitehorse. Karen is an established traditional artisan who has been practicing her art for as long as she can remember. She was inspired to create beautiful pieces using leather, furs and beads by her mother Martha Buyck, who was a skilled artisan in her own right. Karen tries to emulate the beautiful beadwork of her mother while applying her own techniques.Karen handcrafts mukluks, moccasins, mitts & gauntlets, purses, bags and pouches decorated with beadwork or embroidery. She takes great enjoyment from pulling every piece together using color coordination and her keen attention to detail. Karen’s work has been featured in the “What’s Up Yukon” newspaper as well as a short film about her healing journey and using art for meditation and recovery. SBKN052401L09
